Chinese Pistache – Pistacia chinensis This tree has gained a lot of popularity over the past several years and for good reason. It tolerates drought and diverse soil conditions and is one of the most colorful trees in autumn. The color change is slow and therefore provides beautiful hues for a lengthy period. In time, it provides decent shade. It is most effective as an ornamental, however, and works well near patios or decks.
We first began propagation of this tree 20 years ago at the nursery with seed. We loved this particular tree because of its ease in growing. The tree practically grew itself. We knew that someday it would catch on to become one of the best shade and colorful trees available.
Hardy in zone 5, and grows well in the heat of Phoenix. The Chinese Pistache is a very adaptable tree to enjoy for many years to come. By the way, in case your wondering, the tree does not produce Pistachio nuts.

An early snow or frost will not harm a nursery stock item that is already dormant. On the other hand, these items can also be planted during warm weather--simply be sure to water well.
